About Petition e-3638

This Petition seeks to end discrimination against atheists in Canada’s refugee policies and help save people from persecution. Currently, only religious people are eligible for a rapid hearing under the Less Complex Claims policy.

The Petition calls upon the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to clarify the Less Complex Claims policy’s status and ensure that atheists, humanists, and other non-believers are included in the list of eligible people for consideration under this policy.

Secular Connexion Séculière (SCS) and Humanist Canada have been working to amend this policy to include atheists in the list of people eligible for refugee status, so they will be treated equally as those belonging to the religions currently listed in the policy.

Humanist Canada supports this Petition and is helping to raise awareness of its importance and impact on improving Humanists’ human rights.
